Grow Song of The Evertree Wiki

The main Quest or Plotline of Grow: Song of the Evertree is the story of the last Everheart Alchemist in Alaria, a young Aerum who stayed behind when the rest of their people fled The Withering. This young Alchemist is the last hope to repair the Song of Myora and heal the Evertree, the source of all life in the Cosmos.

WARNING!!! This page is full of spoilers for the game. It is recommended that you play through before opening the following sections. Although this information is broken into acts, the game itself plays as a very open-world game and is not constrained by the apparent timeline presented here.

Act 1 - The World Seed

    SPOILER FOR ACT 1
The game begins with a narrative overview of the world of Grow: Song of the Evertree, explaining about the source of all life, Myora, and how some people came to the Evertree and were able to tap into this energy using their talent they called Alchemy to shape the world around them. Too much reliance on Alchemy caused an imbalance and discord shattered the Song, causing The Withering to overwhelm the Evertree and destroy the once-great city of Alaria. Only the Apprentice, the last Everheart Alchemist, remained behind to fix things.

A quick flyby shows the world of Alaria, built around the base of the Evertree, but now almost entirely encased in the giant vines of The Withering. Only one small haven remains: the home of the Everheart Alchemists. Inside sleeps the last hope of not just Alaria, but the Evertree and the entire Cosmos...

The Apprentice is awoken by the two constructs that have served as mentors for many years: Book and Coppertop. Once awake, the player gets to choose the Apprentice's appearance, clothing, name and other features, and then gets a brief tutorial on movement and interaction. Book and Coppertop advise the Apprentice that their experiment to create a brand new World Seed was successful, and provide tools to help the Apprentice plant the seed and tend to it. A sudden crash at the front of the house starts a tool-using tutorial, eventually leading the Apprentice outside where they are introduced to their flying mount, Kazumi, who then takes them to the boughs of the Evertree, where they are to plant the World Seed.

Once the World Seed is planted, a whole new micro-world springs forth: a smallish, somewhat circular platform covered in rubble, weeds and small piles of dirt. The Apprentice is tasked with tending this world by cleaning up the rubble, removing the weeds and planting new seeds to grow trees, bushes and other vegetation. Book and Coppertop are extremely proud of the Apprentice, but cannot help but notice how little Myora there is compared to what there was before the Song was broken. Frustrated, the Apprentice lets out a burst of song, and suddenly plants begin to thrive in response. Book and Coppertop are astonished, but encourage the Apprentice to sing further, connecting with the Song and growing the world even more. After doing all they can for this area, Book and Coppertop encourage the Apprentice to return home and get a good night's sleep, whilst the two of them discuss the amazing progress that was made in only a day.

The Apprentice has connected with the Song of Myora! There is hope after all!

Act 2 - The Everkin return

    SPOILER FOR ACT 2
After once again waking the Apprentice, Book offers to keep track of goals to help the Apprentice with their tasks. The mentors then mention that there is a strange creature cavorting about in the garden outside the house, and encourage the Apprentice to follow it, all the way to a strange portal that opens, leading them to a new world, known as Where-Ever.

Here in this timeless pocket dimension, the Apprentice meets Elderkin and several other Everkin who serve as further tutorials on the Apprentice's tools as well as two more complex tools: the Bug Net and the Fishing Rod.

Once completed, the Apprentice returns to Alaria to tend the young World Seed once more, before heading home for another well-deserved night's rest.

Act 3 - New places, new people!

    SPOILER FOR ACT 3
With the World Seed thriving, Book and Coppertop turn the Apprentice's attention to the local area, having them use a Harmony Stone to push back the Withering and unlock the first District, Meadow Quarters. After using the Everkin to clear the Dock, Vistors and Residents arrive, leading to a tutorial not only on building, but on assigning Residents and meeting their needs. After another day or two, some old friends, Arralyn and Oleander arrive one after the other, and the Apprentice gets to not only help them find a place to live and work, but potentially can end up in a relationship with either of them (other potential relationship characters appear much further down the road). Book offers to keep track of the needs of the Districts so the Apprentice knows what to focus on. Meanwhile, the Apprentice must continue to tend to the World Seed.

Act 4 - Fragments of the Song

    SPOILER FOR ACT 4
A message comes from Elderkin to come to the Where-Ever. The eldest Everkin has a message from the Evertree itself! The Apprentice must find the fragments of the Song of Myora and place them around the roots of the Evertree to heal the tree and repair the Song. The first fragment was hidden in a Vault nearby, and the Apprentice must explore the vault to recover it. After finding and restoring the fragment, the Apprentice is further tasked with restoring Harmony to the Meadow Quarters district to be able to unlock other districts, each of which has another hidden song fragment.

Meanwhile, the Apprentice completes a World Seed and is given the option to keep it and continue tending to it, harvesting needed resources, or to release it into the Cosmos, where it can begin to grow into a complete world of its own.

Act 5 - Finding the last fragments

    SPOILER FOR ACT 5
After pushing the Withering out of all seven Districts, the Apprentice locates the final fragment and restores the Song of Myora and the Evertree. A long cinematic shows that not only is Alaria thriving, but the tree itself blooms, releasing new seeds that grow into more Evertrees, populating the Cosmos. Harmony is restored, and the Apprentice joins their own voice to the Song.
