Grow Song of The Evertree Wiki

Resources are an important element of Grow: Song of the Evertree, as they are the primary reward from harvesting the various environments in Alaria and on Worlds. Some Resources are used to resolve Goals, Quests, or Resident Requests, but almost all Resources can be broken down into raw Essences to be used as building blocks for new World Seeds. While there are a limited number of Resource types, the appearance and names of specific Resources within each type are quite varied, due to most Resources in Alaria and on different and unique Worlds having procedurally-generated appearances and even names.

    Resource types

There are many different Resource types. Most can be found in the Apprentice's inventory, under Items. Fodder, Ores, Minerals and Gemstones are currently found under Key Items, whereas Critters are located in Hammerspace and cannot be seen outside of the Critter Management Menu.

    Critters

Critters are the small or large four-legged animals found around Alaria and on the various Worlds that the Apprentice grows from World Seeds. Critters can be tamed and even adopted and placed at Nature Reserves, Ranches, and (if a Critter House is applied to the House) Residents' Small or Large Houses. Critters can neither be sold nor broken down into Essence.

    See Critters.

    Fish

Fish are small, colourful aquatic creatures that can be caught by the Apprentice using a Fishing Rod. They can be found in almost any body of water in Alaria or on most Worlds, and, once caught, can be placed into Nature Reserves. Fish can also be sold to Fisherkin, the fishing Everkin, in Where-Ever, or used to fulfill Residents' Requests, but not broken down into Essence.

    See Fish.

    Fodder

Fodder is the result of harvesting clumps of Grass (not Withering grass) from Worlds the Apprentice grows from World Seeds. It is used for certain Resident Requests. There is a maximum limit of 99 Fodder in Inventory, which is easy to reach, since Fodder is not unique on each World, nor distinct from Fodder grown in Alaria. Excess Fodder can be sold to Bumpkin, the farming Everkin, in Where-Ever.

Fodder currently appears under Key Items in the Apprentice's Inventory.

    Fossil

    Ammonite
    Fossil

    Fossilized
    Footprint

    Fossilized
    Tooth

    Trilobite
    Fossil

Fossils are acquired by breaking apart Mining Points in Caves and on some Strange Worlds. They have little value beyond being broken down for Essence or sold to Brokin, the stone-working Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    See Mining.

    Flowers

Flowers are found growing naturally around Alaria, but can also be grown by the Apprentice on Worlds. Once a Flower has grown to maturity (which usually only takes 1 watering after the initial one), it can be harvested by standing near it and picking it up. Flowers can be placed back on the ground, but cannot be replanted, once picked. They are used to satisfy some Resident Requests, especially from Oleander and Flora. Excess Flowers can be sold to Bumpkin, the farming Everkin, in Where-Ever, or broken down into Essence by Coppertop.

    Fruit

Fruit is found hanging from Trees which are growing on Worlds. It can be gathered by walking up to the Tree and triggering the Shake option, or by swinging the Axe at the Tree (It is not necessary to chop the Tree all the way down for Fruit to fall). When shaking a Tree, moving the mouse or joystick back and forth, or holding down the indicated key, will loosen any attached Fruit enough for it to fall to the ground where it can be picked up. Fallen fruit is sometimes most easily picked up at an angle and/or from a slight distance, rather than standing directly over it. Occasionally Fruit will grow low enough on a Tree to be picked directly. Fallen Fruit, like Nuts, can also be smushed with the Mallet, but as with Nuts, this yields no Myora or other rewards, just a squishing sound. Up to three Fruit may grow on a Tree at a time, but not every Tree will spawn Fruit at the same time. Fruit is used to satisfy some Resident Requests and extra Fruit can be broken down into Essence via Coppertop, or sold to Wateringkin, the moisture Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    Gemstone

    Dragons Egg

    Fools Gem

    Giant's Tooth

    Ground Candy

    Heaven Drop

    Midorium

    Moon Shard

    Ocean Eye

Gemstones are acquired by breaking apart Mining Points in Caves and on some Strange Worlds. They have little value beyond being broken down for Essence or sold to Brokin, the stone-working Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    See Mining.

    Grass Seed

Grass Seeds are occasionally found when harvesting Grass clumps on Worlds. These seeds can then be planted in a Town Square to change the style of groundcover Grass which grows in that District. As of January 2022, the style of groundcover Grass which will grow on Alaria does not match the appearance of the groundcover Grass on the World on which its Seed was harvested. Grass Seeds can also be broken down into Essence, and will never yield an Essence not used to create the World is came from, but cannot be sold.

    Insects

Insects are small, colourful crawling and flying creatures that can be caught by the Apprentice using a Bug Net. They can be found almost everywhere in Alaria, including Caves and some Vaults, as well as on most Worlds (once the World has been tended enough). Once caught, Insects can be placed into Nature Reserves. Some Resident Requests can be fulfilled by bringing the Resident an Insect. Insects can also be sold to Catcherkin, the bug-catching Everkin, in Where-Ever, but not broken down into Essence.

    Junk

    Broken Wagon
    Wheel

    Leaky Bag

    Message in a Bottle

    Pirate's Peg Leg

    Rusty Tin Can

    Soggy Left Boot
    Water Weed

Junk is found when Fishing; specifically, when trying to catch from glowing spots in certain bodies of water. Although useful items are usually found, occasionally the Apprentice will reel in a piece of Junk. The only use for Junk is to sell it to Junkin, the junk-buying scrap-artist Everkin, in Where-Ever, as it cannot be broken down into Essence.

    Minerals

    Abnormite

    Magnificite

    Plentium

    Scarcium

Minerals are acquired by breaking apart Mining Points in Caves and on some Strange Worlds. They have little value beyond being broken down for Essence or sold to Brokin, the stone-working Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    See Mining.

    Nuts

Nuts are found hanging from Shrubs on Worlds grown from World Seeds. They can be gathered by walking up to the Shrub and using the Interact button (it will change to say Pick Up) to pick the Nut. Care must be taken not to accidentally smush the Nut with the Mallet — it is best not to approach a Shrub with the Mallet equipped, as smushing the Nut yields no Myora or other rewards, just a squishing sound as with smushed fallen Fruit. Up to three Nuts may grow on a Shrub at a time, but not every Shrub will spawn Nuts at the same time. Nuts are used to satisfy some Resident Requests, and extra Nuts can be broken down into Essence, or sold to Wateringkin, the moisture Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    Ores

    Copper Ore

    Diamond Ore

    Gold Ore

    Iron Ore

    Silver Ore

    Philosopher's Stone

Ores are acquired by breaking apart Mining Points in Caves and on some Strange Worlds. They have little value beyond being broken down for Essence or sold to Brokin, the stone-working Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    See Mining.

    Rocks

Rocks are acquired by using a Mallet to break apart Boulders on Worlds or around Alaria, or simply by picking a Rock up directly from the ground where it can spawn randomly. Rocks have little value beyond being broken down for Essence or sold to Brokin, the stone-working Everkin, in Where-Ever, although Rocks are needed to solve certain Puzzles. For those Puzzles, any Rock will do; Rocks dropped by breaking a Boulder go directly into the Apprentice's Inventory, but can then be selected from the Inventory screen if needed to solve a Puzzle.

    • Note: A Rock is never dropped by breaking apart stone rubble detritus which manifests on Worlds in need of tending.

    See Mining.

    Stinkweed

Stinkweed is the name of the purplish weeds the Apprentice needs to pull from the ground as part of tending Worlds. It can only be broken down for Essence or sold to Chopkin, the cooking Everkin, in Where-Ever. Stinkweed has no other use.

    Wood

Wood is acquired by chopping down Trees using the Axe Tool. Trees are found all over Alaria, as well as on Worlds, where they are grown by the Apprentice. It takes several days of tending for a Tree to grow to full size so that the Apprentice can chop it down, and they can appear in several different shapes and sizes on each World. When a Tree is chopped down for Wood, two to five pieces generally drop, in addition to Myora, and any Fruit that might have been hanging on the Tree at the time; fallen Fruit must be picked up, as it is not gathered automatically. It takes several days for a Tree to respawn after being chopped down. Wood is used for occasional Resident Requests, and excess Wood can be sold to Chopkin, the cooking Everkin, in Where-Ever.

    Resource Names

Some harvestable resources (Fish, Flowers, Fruit, Insects, Nuts, Rocks, Weeds, Wood) have randomly generated names, combining a prefix selected based on the world's Biomes, and/or Essences used during World Seed creation, and a suffix based on the category of resource. For example, an Insect could be named Calm Bug; in this example, Calm is the prefix and Bug is the suffix.
