Kazumi is the default name of the Apprentice's mount in Grow: Song of the Evertree. (It is possible to rename the mount, but only when prompted upon first encountering them.) Kazumi can be whistled for from most locations in Alaria and on Worlds in the branches of the Evertree, by pressing the appropriate button (M on keyboard, Dpad Up on PC controller), but not from inside any building, Vault, or Cave, nor from anywhere in Where-Ever, nor after sunset. If the sun goes down while the Apprentice is tending a World, Kazumi will simply bring them home, but if the Apprentice stays out too late in Alaria, they will have to either find their own way back to the Alchemy House or be brought home by Kazumi at midnight.
Calling the mount brings the Apprentice to the Map screen: either a high-altitude view of Alaria, if called from Alaria, or an even-higher-altitude view of the Evertree and any Seed Planters (or planted Worlds) the Apprentice has unlocked, if called from a Seed Planter or World. The two views can be switched between using the key or button noted at the bottom of the screen — View Town to switch from the view of the Evertree to the view of Alaria, or View Tree to switch from the view of Alaria to the view of the Evertree.
The mount is first encountered during the tutorial phase of the game, when the Apprentice leaves their home in Alchemist's Grotto and discovers Kazumi has perched atop the cottage.
After a few days, when passing near Kazumi, the Apprentice will be prompted by Book to show Kazumi some care and attention. At this point, like Critters that the Apprentice can tame and eventually adopt, Kazumi can be interacted with (using the usual Interact key or button) up to three times per day, but only when perched on their roost by Alchemy House. Kazumi has two interaction options: Cuddle and Feed. Choosing Cuddle (if that is the desired interaction) leads to the Apprentice and their mount sharing a hug, while choosing Feed leads to Kazumi biting a treat out of the air. Choosing the wrong interaction uses up one interaction for the day, but it will not be counted in terms of successful interactions for progressing Kazumi's Critter care meter.
The Critter care meter, the circular progress bar, takes rather more successful interactions to fill than those of Critters the Apprentice encounters on Worlds — fifty-four interactions, or eighteen days with three correct interactions per day. Once this progress bar is filled, it is still possible to engage in interactions with Kazumi by choosing the Interact button.
Starting on the first day the Apprentice can interact with Kazumi, the Apprentice can also take selfies with the mount, and will unlock additional selfie poses as the Critter care meter is filled.

Kazumi Care Rewards
Caring for Kazumi is not only a way to show love to the creature, there are a number of things that occur as the Apprentice interacts with Kazumi more:
|
Kazumi's species
Initially, the Apprentice's mount seems to be the only one of its kind. However, once the Apprentice has had enough successful interactions with Kazumi, a cutscene will be triggered the morning after the necessary conditions are met, when the Apprentice leaves their cottage. |
After the next cutscene trigger, again the morning following meeting the necessary conditions, the nest-basket by Kazumi's roost will be full of eggs. It is not clear whether Kazumi is the sire or the dam, but in any case their mate seems to leave caring for the eggs to Kazumi. |
Finally, once the Apprentice has maxed out Kazumi's interaction-progress bar, the eggs will hatch the following morning. |
All of the young have Kazumi's coloring, and are able to fly immediately. Thereafter, the babies will either sit, lay, or fly about the area of the Alchemy House. They cannot be interacted with by the Apprentice. |
