Grow Song of The Evertree Wiki
Entrance to the Vault of Tricking
Entrance to the Vault, showing the path down from the Lighthouse

The Vault of Tricking is the fifth Vault the Apprentice enters in search of lost Fragments of the Song of Myora. Located on the southern peninsula of River Precinct, this vault can be most easily reached by traveling from Town Square to the lighthouse prominently visible on this peninsula, then following the path around the back of the lighthouse down to the vault entrance below.

This vault is notable for introducing the game mechanic of bypassing Wither vines, which can be removed from the path by freeing all Withered Insects in an area with the mallet. Once all Withered insects have been freed a brief cutscene will play, showing the retreat of the Wither vines.

An example of the Wither vine and attendant insects

The vault itself is a long corridor with no significant branching paths, progress forward is limited by removal of Wither vines and and returning Keystones to their corresponding pedestals. While vault sentries add some challenge to collecting the keystones, the sentry paths are predictable and give ample opportunities to safely acquire the Keystones. An Everkid can also be found tucked in corners of one of the final side rooms before reaching the Song fragment.

As with all Vaults, time does not pass while inside this Vault, so the Apprentice can take their time solving its Puzzles.

    WALKTHROUGH (SPOILERS)
In the initial corridor, smash all Withered insects with the Mallet to clear the Wither vines. The corridor is wider near the entrance, providing alcoves for Withered insects to hide in that can be easily overlooked. A cutscene with the retreating vines will play once all insects are freed.

Exiting the corridor into a larger room, a brief cutscene will play showing the four keystones needed to unlock the stone door to the next room.

Dropping/Jumping from the upper platform to the pedestal platform
Drop to the lower level and head around the back of the stone structure in the center-left side of the room to find a green hexagonal Keystone. Pick up the keystone and use the nearby stone ramp that wraps around this structure to reach the top where the yellow cubic Keystone is tucked amidst some stone coffers. Run (or jump) off the protruding platform at the top to drop onto the area with Keystone pedestals on the far side of the room.

Drop off the green hexagonal keystone on its pedestal, then return to the lower level and follow the same path as before to collect and return the yellow cubic Keystone. The Apprentice should now pursue the yellow hexagonal keystone, which can be found behind the center-right stone structure. Unfortunately, the ramp on this structure is broken so the center-left structure should be used to return this keystone.

Leaping from the pedestal platform to the center-right structure's ramp
Leaping from the center-right structure's summit back to the pedestal platform
The final keystone can be found atop the center-right stone structure but without an intact ramp, a leap from the corner nearest the hexagonal Keystone pedestals to the lowest part of the remaining ramp is needed. Upon reaching the top of the structure and collecting the green cubic Keystone, the Apprentice can leap from the corner closest to the pedestal area and drift safely back or drop to the lower level and take the well-trodden path via the center left structure.

Once all Keystones are returned to their respective pedestals, the door to the next area will open in another cutscene. Pass through the now-open door and drop down into a cavernous room with a floor of standing water. The Apprentice will once again be confronted with several Withered insects that must be freed with the Mallet.

While the depth of the water may concern some Apprentices based on prior vaults, stride forward confidently as every bit of it is safe for travel. As this cavern is much darker than the initial corridor, Apprentices may need to track Withered Insects by their violet sparkles and goopy, raucous noises. Once the watery floor has been cleared, travel up the stone switchbacks near the pillars to reach the far side of the cavern and the remaining insects. Upon smashing the final insect, another cutscene will play showing the retreat of the final vines obstructing progress.

Pass through the opening to be treated with another cutscene and more vault sentries patrolling a corridor that loops around to form a square room. Keystone pedestals lock stone doors on the left and right sides, with the appropriate keystone for each found on the opposing side of the loop. Each of these rooms contains a magenta Keystone among stone coffers, both of which must be delivered to their respective Keystone pedestals at the far end of the loop to unlock the final door.

Both of these side rooms merit further inspection, as the lefthand room contains an Everkid tucked in a corner behind a Wither vine and the righthand room contains an Alchemist's Abandoned Workspace containing the Old Journal recipe for a Frozen biome Perfect Seed.

After all side rooms have been sufficiently ransacked and the Magenta Keystones have been returned, continue through the final door and collect a well-deserved prize: the Song Fragment of Shattering

Once the Fragment has been claimed — unlike the situation in most Vaults — there is no shortcut out of the Vault. Head back through previous rooms, avoiding sentries and returning to the entrance in the initial corridor.
