The Large House is one of many Buildings that can be placed in any Town. It is a residence that can hold up to three Residents, but only one slot is unlocked at first. Unlike the Small House, the Large House is not available at the start and the blueprint must be unlocked by building 2 Inns and 6 Small Houses, and also finding homes for 15 Residents. Note that the blueprint doesn't become available until after Kathleen has become a Resident, so any Inns and Houses built previous to that point are not counted toward unlocking the blueprint.
The Large House can be customised in a number of ways. The roof, walls and skirting can each be painted with various Wallpapers. In the second screenshot in the infobox, the roof is blue, the walls are red and the skirting is green. Up to two flower boxes can be added, as well as a mailbox and Pet House. Additionally, there are three Token slots to fill.
The cost of building the Large House starts at 225 
in the Meadow Quarters, but goes up from there according to the following table:
