Grow Song of The Evertree Wiki

The Gnome House is a Point of Interest which, unlike many other Points of Interest, can be interacted with. Interacting with the Gnome House from outside transports the Apprentice inside. The Gnome House is bigger on the inside than it appears from outside. A Gnome House may appear on any newly-planted World, or one may appear on a given World only after that World has expanded at least once. A single World may not have more than one Gnome House.

    Appearance

The interior of the Gnome House.

From the outside, each Gnome House is a cylindrical terracotta-brick building featuring green wood-framed windows, two metallic stovepipes, and a pentagonal blue door. The door is significantly smaller than the Apprentice, but, like other small doors hidden around Alaria, is apparently large enough for the Apprentice to enter regardless. Despite its gaily-colored appearance, the Gnome House can be difficult to spot from a distance on a fully-bloomed World.

Inside each Gnome House are an unlocked Iron Chest, a number of furnishings clustered around the Chest which are mostly prone to falling over due to having rounded bottoms, and one Disgruntled Gnome up in the loft area. The Chest may appear on the left-hand or right-hand side of the room. It is possible to approach near enough to these Chests to open them without knocking over any of the Gnome's furnishings, by keeping close to the wall on whichever side the Chest appears.

    Gnome

The Apprentice is much larger than the Gnome.

The Gnome inside the Gnome House cannot be spoken with directly via the Interact button, but, if the Apprentice causes enough of the furnishings to fall over, will chastise the Apprentice via a one-sided diatribe. The Gnome, standing less than half the Apprentice's height, wears a brown Phrygian cap, belt, and boots over a pink-and-lime ombre tunic and pink-striped tights, as well as sporting a belly-length greenish beard. None of the Gnome's Clothing items are available for other Younglings or the Apprentice to wear as of December 2021.

    Notes

    • A Key is not needed to open the Chest inside the Gnome House, even though they resemble the type which usually requires expenditure of an Iron Key.
    • Opening the Chest located inside each Gnome House is not sufficient to trigger the Just for Kicks Achievement. Instead, the Apprentice must knock the Gnome's furnishings over, either directly or by opening the Chest and causing Myora to fly out into the room, until the Gnome becomes "Disgruntled" and chastises the Apprentice.
    • There are at least five sets of dialogue the Gnome may use, beginning with either "ARGHH!", "GYARG!", "NNNN-GAH!", "NYARK!", or "NYOO!" (the letters of these all-caps exclamations seem to shiver, and this is not a bug but rather an indication of the Gnome's anger).
    • It is possible for the Apprentice to become 'stuck' behind overturned furnishings in the Gnome House to the extent that working their way free will trigger the Gnome's diatribes repeatedly. Jumping clear can help, as can simply turning toward the door, since the Exit option can be triggered from halfway inside the room.
